About North Asheville Baptist ChurchOur History North Asheville Baptist Church has long stood as a testimony to God’s faithfulness since our church was called into existence in 1910. First located on Forsythe Street in North Asheville, the church was a satellite of First Baptist Church of Asheville. NABC grew in membership as well as influencing the community with the Gospel of Christ. As the generations passed NABC continued to provide its members with solid Biblical discipleship as the church body reached out to a growing community with the Good News of Jesus Christ. In 1969 the church body began to grow and a need for a larger facility to reach more people with the Gospel became apparent. This led NABC to go forward in faith as a 3.5 acre tract of land was purchased near highway 19/23 and UNC-Asheville. Construction ensued and on Easter Sunday, 1972 NABC held its first worship service in the new church building. In August of 1989 Jim Dykes was called as pastor. The years proceeding with Rev. Dykes as pastor have been ones of significant growth and change. In yet another step forward in faith, in 1994 NABC purchased eight acres at our current location. The first service was held January 1, 1996 in the new brick building. Such growth occurred that two Sunday morning services were required and 8 more acres of land had to be purchased due to projected growth. In 2001, the church fellowship moved once again, into a multipurpose building and continues to meet there today. The brick building now houses North Asheville Christian School, established in 1999 as a ministry of NABC. Beginning as a preschool for 3 year old children, the school currently serves over 200 students, and we had the honor and privilege of graduating our first senior class in May of 2009.Our Future We look forward to our move to the 100 acres we purchased 6 miles north of our current location. Our relocation plans will enable our church family to reach thousands of people with the good news of God’s love for them in Christ! Moving forward to our new location, we will have space for an ever expanding church and school ministry, including large worship space, conference facilities, classrooms, future seminary space, counseling ministries, recreational fields, gymnasium, worship pavilions, prayer walks, and much more! All, with the ultimate goal of equipping God’s people of all ages to reach more people for Jesus! |
